2009 Iowa State Fair

Last weekend I decided to go to the Iowa State Fair to check out the sites, sounds and smells. The Iowa State Fair is one of the best fairs in the United States. There is so much to see and do that it can be a little overwhelming. I took a few photos of the sites that I saw while I was there. From the record setting pumpkin, the 3000+ lb Bull, to the white veranda tents of the Des Moines elite that camp at the fair all week...it is something to see. Bubba Sorenson, the Freedom Rock Guy, was in the Arts & Culture building painting a smaller rock for the fair. I had lots of fun walking around and people watching. I was excited that I was able to listen to a few of the "Sprouts" perform during the Bill Riley Talent Show. I cast my kernel for UNI. And I even found some of the new 2010 Harley Davidson Motorcycles.

My View of the 2009 Iowa State Fair...

Our state fair is held in Jackson, Ms…its large but I’m sure it is not near as large as Iowa’s. I’m getting ready to do a 3000 mile bike ride next week I may even make it as far as Iowa to check out what the state has to offer…one never knows…

Ms. IHG: Are you sure you are not following me around? I started to write my post about the Iowa State Fair yesterday but got side tracked by a motorcycle ride so I never got it finished. Now if you tell me you were at Big Barn Harley Davidson yesterday for that little party I know you are following me around!

I love the fair!!!

Steph, that was fun! I haven't been to a state fair since the early 90's....you've reminded me what is really fascinating and fun about them...it's the simple life come back once more...no matter how old you get...there is always something at the state fair to bring you back "home" once more... You've done that for me with the montage...now...when is the TN State Fair? Dang...it ran last week... and I didn't go.... NEXT YEAR...look out!

Steph...great fair...wonderful presentation...I thought that 3000 pounds bull was big, then I saw the pig and he was big too...Didn't know you had cable cars there...what are they used for?
and the motorcycles...were these for sale? They all seemed to have a tag on their handle bar?
Is everything that big in Iowa?
Thanks for sharing and bringing to us a delightful moment in time...Cheers

Thanks! Wow, that was a huge hog. That was one big fat pig! I had to pause it there just to look at that. Wow, Wilbur has really packed it on since Charlotte died!

I did that bungie ball thingy last year...whoa...that was a trip. Did you do that?

Thanks for the vid! Brought back fond memories of getting crushed on the "Scrambler"!

That was one big damn bull!

We don't have a "state" fair in Mass, but there are several county and regional fairs in various parts of the state. One of the larger, more popular is the Topsfield fair every October, which I haven't been to since I was a kid. Your post brought back some memories of that. Pretty cool!

We also have a medieval thing every fall that is much bigger and better though. It's called King Richard's Faire, and is regarded as not just Mass, but New England's finest renaissance faire. It starts this Friday, runs to just before Halloween, and I'm going this year for the first time! I'll have to do a post on it.

Glad you all enjoyed the fair. It was fun taking it all in. Iowa is lucky to have such a wonderful event toward the end of the summer!

Hogman...they didn't have the bike I want.
