I love that you posted this right now because I just came out of the basement where I have been working on a 84 inch scale model of a C-47 transport plane named Black Bird. It was the first troop plane to enter Germany when the invasion started. It will be going in a museum when I am done.
And forget we will not. It took over 50 yrs for my dad to tell me what happened to him in the Black forest. A Purple Heart Bronze Star. 18 yr old kid off the farm. They are all hero's.
Thank you all for visiting the site and reflecting for a moment on what happened that day. We must always keep this memory alive even if it is so tragic. Those young men that are now deceased or in their twilight years did something so selfless for a people they did not know. They are all heroes.
