Remembering Coach Ed Thomas

Parkersburg, IA made national news again but this time the tragedy is even more horrible. Being from Northeast Iowa when you would hear the words Aplington-Parkersburg you would think of their amazing football team. The Falcons were lead by Head Coach Ed Thomas. Today Coach Thomas was shot and killed by a former player. There are no details yet as to why the shooter killed the 2005 NFL High School Coach of the Year. I just know it makes me wonder what goes through a person's head when they decide to take another person's life. I'm blown away. I found a video on youtube of a football game from last season after they had rebuilt the stadium that was lost in the tornado...it shows a little of what a great man Ed Thomas was. My thoughts and prayers are with the Thomas family, the shooters family, and the town of Parkersburg. This Iowa Icon will be missed by so many.

Aplington-Parkersburg is the alma mater of four current NFL players -- Casey Wiegmann of the Denver Broncos; Jared DeVries of the Detroit Lions; Brad Meester of the Jacksonville Jaguars; and Aaron Kampman of the Green Bay Packers. All played for Thomas.

This Little Dancer Loves Those Motorcycle Antenna Poles

Saturday evening I was itching to ride the motorcycle. Dan could tell it when he walked through the door. Being I'm such a nice chick I left it up to him if we were going or not since, he'd worked all day. He decided he wanted to go so in true IHG style I was ready in T minus 9 seconds and counting...ok...a little longer then that but it's like break speed. We rode up north and took the long way around to check out Cambridge's Bike Night again. We were walking around looking at motorcycles and I stumbled across this antenna ornament. It's a mini dancer, dancing on her antenna pole.

Biker Gothic

IowaHarleyGirl wants to know...

When was the first time you heard the calling?

My very first memory of noticing motorcycles was when I was in junior high. There was a motorcycle run in CF/Waterloo that was going down University Avenue. I begged my Mom to pull into a parking lot so that we could watch them go by. I remember my feelings of wanting to go with them. Wishing that someone would let me hop on the back. Dreams really do come true! :)

Have a great weekend!

Million Mile Monday - June 29th

The 2nd Annual Million Mile Monday will take place on Monday, June 29th, and is a day which encourages H.O.G. members to ride to reach this year's goal of 5 million miles, exceeding last year's accomplishment of 3 million miles. It’s simple, just ride – ride to work, at lunch, around the block, or even take the whole day off to ride. Many will be using their return trip from CLUB H.O.G. OKC for their contribution. Non-H.O.G. members can join now, just in time for the event: http://www.harley-davidson.com/wcm/Content/Pages/HOG/join_hog.jsp?locale=en_US

Participants worldwide can log on to http://members.hog.com/ to record their miles, read the blog, submit their photos, explore others’ photos, and more. Those who can’t ride can watch the progress of others with a virtual odometer which will be updated throughout the day on http://www.harley-davidson.com/ and http://www.hog.com/.

Check out the preview for Million Mile Monday on the Harley-Davidson YouTube channel:

News on Billy Lane

I once loved Billy Lane. His talent blew me away. In 2004 my friend Kristin and I went to the Full Throttle Saloon every day to try to meet him. And we did! I was floating on motorcycle fumes as Kristin took my picture with him. Now because of poor judgement my once idol is going to prison for possibly 9 years. I think he got too caught up in all his hype and a greater power did this to bring him back down. What a tough way to be brought back down to reality. My hope is that someday Billy will rise again and bring back that mad talent.
